Spain is home to hundreds of indigenous grape varieties, countless small family wineries and regions producing wines that many people have never even heard of. Yet many restaurant wine lists still play it safe, relying on the same familiar names because they're what customers recognise and they don't have the time or energy to explore other options.

Over the years, we've been lucky enough to visit some interesting wineries across Spain. We've tasted Albariño overlooking the Atlantic in Galicia, shared long lunches in Rioja and discovered unique wines here in Mallorca. Every visit reminds us that some of the best summer wines aren't necessarily the most expensive or the most famous - they're simply the ones that suit the moment.

Tucked between the rolling hills of Galicia and the vast plateau of Castilla y León, Bierzo slowly reveals itself. You arrive through winding roads, past chestnut trees and slate-strewn hillsides - until… the landscape opens into a natural amphitheatre of vineyards. It’s here that some of Spain’s most distinctive wines are taking shape - not through power, but through precision, old vines, and a deep connection to place.

There is a new generation of young winemakers that are making a difference and saying, “We can influence the world of wine too"....
