Situated in the Salnés Valley near the Umía River estuary, Bodegas Albamar benefits from the gentle sea breeze, giving their wines a distinct character.
With a focus on natural viticulture, Bodegas Albamar emphasizes respectful winemaking to capture the classic crisp, Atlantic, and mineral essence of the region in their wines. They aim to highlight the terroir and grape variety characteristics.
Albamar O Esteiro is a sophisticated and elegant red wine that combines the three red varieties of the O Esteiro trilogy - Mencía, Caíño, and Espadeiro. The grapes are sourced from small vineyards with sandy clay soil in different plots across the Salnés Valley, which feature vines aged between 40 and over 100 years old.
The grapes for this blend are carefully handpicked and sorted in the vineyard. Upon arrival at the winery, 20% of the grapes are destemmed. Fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeasts, allowing for a three-week maceration period. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 8 months before being bottled without filtration or clarification.
Here's a taste of what you can expect from this wine:
- Aromas: Expect balsamic notes of laurel and eucalyptus, and floral aromas with subtle forest hints, all of which are characteristics of the grape varieties used.
- Palate: This well-balanced red wine offers a refreshing taste and it is easy to savour.
- Serving Temperature: 15 ºC.
- Pairing: Pair this wine with grilled meats, rice dishes with meat, game meat, Lacón con Grelos, and white meat.
