"La Tapada" is a vineyard located in Azagra, a town in Rioja Oriental (old Rioja Baja) located in the community of Navarra.  It is one of the last vineyards with traditional cultivation and the name refers to how Garnacha has been a hidden grape variety within the scope of the Rioja D.O.

The vineyard has a slight slope with a northeast exposure and calcareous soils with pebbles.  There is a Mediterranean climate here, carrying low rainfall, less than 350mm.  With this wine, Luis Moya of LMT Wines wants to show that the Garnacha grape has enormous potential in this area.

Here's a taste of what you can expect from this wine:

  • Aromas: La Tapada has notes of red fruit, such as raspberry and cherry, together with ripe black fruits. There are also obvious floral notes, especially violets.
  • Palate: On the palate, the ageing notes contrast with the good acidity.  It's medium-bodied and has fine tannins and a finish where the creamy oak makes a comeback.  This wine is intense, long and concentrated.
