Fresh, Saline & Textural – A Blanco de Albariza from Jerez
Casilla Verde is a distinctive dry white wine from Bodegas del Río, sourced from the Pago Miraflores Baja, specifically the Viña Casilla Verde vineyard in Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
This “Blanco de Albariza” highlights the unique chalky soils of the region - known for their ability to retain water and reflect sunlight - resulting in wines with freshness, salinity, and a strong sense of place.
Winemaking
The Palomino Fino grapes are sourced from vineyards planted on classic albariza soils -chalk-rich, highly reflective, and ideal for maintaining vine hydration in the warm Andalusian climate.
After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in barrique, followed by ageing on fine lees for approximately 7 months in the same barrels.
Notably, the barrels previously held Manzanilla, subtly influencing the wine’s profile and enhancing its saline and savoury character.
This combination of lees ageing and seasoned oak results in a wine that balances freshness with texture and complexity.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Bright lemon yellow with golden reflections.
Aromas: Citrus peel, Mediterranean herbs, and subtle marine, iodine-like notes.
Palate: Fresh, dynamic, and full of personality, with vibrant acidity and a pronounced saline edge. A textured mid-palate leads to a clean, persistent finish.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Serve chilled at 8–10ºC. Excellent with seafood, shellfish, fish tartare, and rice dishes such as seafood risotto. Also pairs well with light fish soups and Mediterranean starters.
