Quite is Verónica Ortega’s entry-level wine, though it carries all the precision and identity that define her work in Bierzo. The 2023 vintage marks the tenth release of this cuvée - a thoughtful blend that captures both the vibrancy of Mencía and the complexity of old-vine terroir.

Vineyard

Sourced from a selection of parcels in Valtuille de Abajo, the vineyards are between 90 and 100 years old. These old vines are rooted in clay-sandy soils scattered with quartzite and slate stones - a defining feature of Bierzo’s valley, contributing both structure and mineral nuance to the wine.

Winemaking

The fruit is predominantly destemmed, with around 15% whole clusters included in certain parcels. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with gentle extraction and short macerations (5–7 days) to preserve freshness and finesse.

The 2023 vintage introduces a notable shift in élevage: the wine is aged over two winters. The first 10 months are spent in French oak tronconic vats, followed by 6 months in 500L barrels. This extended ageing results in a more harmonious, fluid texture and greater overall integration.

Style & Tasting Notes

Quite is designed to express the balance between mineral tension and fruit purity. It retains the approachable, lively character of Mencía while gaining depth from its old-vine origins.

Expect a seductive nose of red berries and blue flowers, underpinned by a subtle hint of liquorice. On the palate, it is light-footed yet structured, with a sleek, elegant texture and a fresh, agile finish.

Overall

An accessible yet characterful Bierzo red - vibrant, mineral, and effortlessly drinkable, with just enough complexity to keep it engaging.
